A week before his SXSW debut, Cleveland-based rapper Lil Bizzy debuted the official music video for his homage record to his father’s group, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony (Thuggish Ruggish Bone). It is his first music video. In the sunlit video, the skilled recording artist represents his hood by wearing a #23 jersey (which belongs to Cleveland Cavaliers’ LeBron James), showing a legendary cross street, and hanging with locals and labelmates.
Upon its release on The FADER, it has been picked up by several viral video pages on social media. On Facebook, the video has over 9 million views. It has accumulated over seven-hundred thousand views on its own. It is a track from his “SOUL” EP.
Lil Bizzy told The FADER in an email, “When I was listening to ‘Thuggish Ruggish Bone’ by my dad and his band, Tasha (Shatasha Williams), who sung the hook, thoroughly inspired me to put on for my city. I know the world has heard it, but it’s a big song in Cleveland. It took me back to the 90s. That’s what inspired me. As far as the video goes, I told my producer Rashad ‘I wanna keep it simple, but creative.’ We shot it in Cleveland. When you listen to it, you have to think about Cleveland.”
During SXSW, he connected with Cardi B, legendary journalist Nardwuar made it his business to meet him, and he performed live at Sway in the Morning’s SXSW 2017 show. Seemingly, he impressed Lil Flip, the crowd, and Sway himself.
Later this month, Lil Bizzy and his labelmate Hodgie will perform live with Lil Wayne and friends in Columbus, Ohio for the 106.7 The Beat Summer Beatdown. In the meantime, check out Lil Bizzy’s latest video for “Bizzy’s in the House” below.
When you’re finished with that video, watch Hodgie’s video for “Caution” featuring Lil Bizzy. It’s the lead single from Hodgie’s brand new seven-track extended play titled, “Street Lights.”
