Get To Know: S.P. Magna | @SPMagnaMusic

Explain who you are for those who don’t know you?

Rapper and Singer-songwriter, S.P. Magna

The name is short for “Sic Parvis Magna,” a latin phrase meaning, “And thus, from small beginnings, greatness comes.”

Where are you from?

The Quad Cities on the Illinois side, in a small country town of roughly 1,200 people

What is it like growing up where your from?

Corn fields, cowboy boots, and cattle farms. Living in a small town definitely has it’s perks, but It’s not exactly a great place to cultivate a local following as a rapper.

How did you get into music?

Writing has always been my way to cope and process things and I’ve wanted to make a difference in the world for as long as I can remember. Earlier this year, I decided to let go of my fear and put the two together and it was the best decision I ever made.

What is it that you do?

I try to be able to do just about everything, but I am above all a rapper and songwriter. I also sing from time to time, produce, and occasionally enjoy modeling and acting.

What are your goals?

To use my music to make the world a better place than it would have been otherwise. I want to give people what my favorite artists gave me growing up; strength, hope, determination, perspective, familiarity, etc…

Since I went public as a rapper, I’ve decided I didn’t just want to make a difference: I want to become the best that ever lived.

What are you currently working on?

I’ve got some collaberation projects in the work, but I am mainly focusing on my debut 6 track EP titled, “Sic Parvis Magna”

As of right now, I’m planning on releasing my first single in Early 2018 and the EP in the Spring of 2018.

How do you feel about the current state of HipHop?

It continues to evolve as the industry does and while I may not personally be a fan of a lot of what has become popular in the last year or two (auto-tune/mumble rap specifically), I recognize it as a valid form of Hip-Hop and will give credit it where it’s due. On the otherside, you’ve got guys like Logic, Chance, G-Eazy, Kid Cudi, and Lin-Manuel Miranda

who are at the top of their game so I definitely wouldn’t say Hip-Hop is “dead”

What makes you DOAP?

The same thing that makes anyone truly DOAP: I am who I am and I’m not gonna compromise myself to try to fit anyone elses wishes. I live my life and chase my dreams unapologetically. I would rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I pretend to be.

Anything else that you would like to add?

Yes, actually, I’d like to thank everyone for reading this and give a huge thank you to my everyone in the Motus Magnitudinis who has supported me so far while I’ve been delayed due to medical issues: The wait is almost over. Shoutout to the Magna Musica Crew!
